What is "Engine Content"?

I just created an empty project. I chose not to include starter content. This leads to not quite empty scene with a simple floor, sky sphere, etc. These actors reference some textures and meshes. When I go to the content browser, there’s an Engine Content folder full of stuff already. Why is it there? What is it for? Can I delete it? Should I delete it?

Hi AnsisMalins,

Engine Content is the stuff used by the editor itself, all the assets for the base engine. This content is vital to the engine. If you want it to go away, instead of deleting it, just go to the eye icon at the bottom right of the content browser called ‘View Options’ and uncheck ‘Show Engine Content.’

Hi, so does editing any asset from this engine content folder, for instance a skysphere material used in one project, will apply changes in all the other unreal projects?

It will affect all other projects that are on the same engine version / installation, yes.
