[Feature Request] offline installer of UE4

Hi sir I have no internet connection in my computer so is there a way to download full setup in another computer and install it in my computer. So please sir if you could provide me an offline installer I would really appreciate it.,

Only current way to install via offline is by compiling the source from github. Or compile it on other computer and copy it to another. Other then that theres currently no other way to install UE4 offline

thanks for answer …But can i ask them for a offline installer,

Hi JOJO,

Thank you for the feedback. is correct, the current method for installing UE4 in offline mode would be through Github.

We have considered an offline installer but there is certain info that we require from users upon installation (EULA agreement, etc). So at this point we don’t have plans for implement this in the near future.

Cheers,

TJ

One of our developers here today tried to compile from source off Github but said even that can’t be done offline as the compilation process tries to get stuff from the internet?

“there is certain info that we require from users upon installation (EULA agreement, etc).”

I don’t see what that has to do with an offline (not automated, just offline IE not connected to the internet) installer. Every program I have ever installed has EULAs to agree to but they still work offline.

I want to chime in on the original request to please make an offline installer/updater. Especially with Epic trying to court VFX studios. Due to MPAA restrictions, we are not allowed to have production computers that can connect to the internet. It took me a week to get UE installed originally at work due to the amount of red tape I had to go through and now I can’t update it.

Please keep this in mind.

I would also like to request an offline installer.

I have always turned away from any software that requires internet access to install or function properly.

Why?

What if for some reason bad weather ( or any other possible reason ) I lose my internet connection and I am in the middle of making a game?

Say I am really on fire that day/night and getting a lot done.

Suddenly my internet connection goes down as it has been doing a lot lately for some strange reason.

Guess what, Now I am very upset because I cannot continue working on my project.

Why would I intentionally force this frustration on myself when I can get Unity for free, and it provides an offline installer?

The lack of an offline installer is the primary reason that I never even considered cryengine as a viable addition to my 3D and game engine arsenal.

As long as there is no option for an offline only install and workflow, I believe people will continue to steer towards Unity, as will I.

When there becomes a way to fully install and work offline. Myself and probably many others will likely make the transition from Unity back to Unreal Engine.

Having to be connected to the internet to install and/or use any software is a huge inconvenience and takes the power out of the hands of the end user.

It makes all of your users feel as if they are on a leash, and we do not like it.

we can connect to internet for the time of installation, but the problem is we can’t download the whole package in that computer …so we need the whole package download on another PC an install it in ours …and also we can’t afford internet connection all the time to run the program…and also we need to backup the software to install it again if due to some reason the program is deleted…

So, the main point is we need a installer to which we can give some internet access but for registration not for downloading the whole package…

and sorry for late reply…regards–JOJO(Ayash)…

Thanks for suppor John Vanderbeck

Thanks for support. LordDiablo3000

If offline installer is not possible then just give us a tutorial to how to download and compile source code, because I am very new to these kind of things.

Being connected to accept the EULA is fine, but an option in the Epic Launcher to cache the installer for an engine version would be very appreciated. I’ve had to reinstall 4.9 about 4 times, 8GB each time, chews up dev time and a good chunk of a small monthly GB allowance.

There is not installer, launcher simply downloads files and sync them. You can create backup copy of engine and if something whent wrong you simply copy files on broken engine

Yeah that is also a good idea…

Your competitor Unity allows offline installation…
Eula can be accepted offline, many softwares requires to accept it before going on.
UE3 installer had offline installation as well…

It would be great for people like who don’t have fiber optics Internet provider in their town… I could download it from office during my off time and install it at home on my computer…

Agree with Alkher83. Kindly provide us the offline installation. Else, it’s not worth my time to continue support and use UE. TQ.

Hi Guys, I will also second the offline install features. I work as an IT Admin for a collage, where we are teaching Unreal Engine to our students. We have more than 200 PCs which needs to be updated to the latest latest version, as soon as they are released. Manually updated the 200 PCs it really time consuming.

If we can find a way to update this offline, we would be able to push the update remotely.

Thanks
Kul

Whoever is in charge of implementing this online only installation, should pull that MBA out and check with legal and reconsider this choice. Only a matter of time till consumer rights in USA and other countries take a big wack at software as well as more class actions. It’s a good idea to keep ethical and allow the consumer the right to choose where the software is installed on a PC as well as an offline installation option… which can be secured by use of an encrypted digital license certificate or network license manager… NOT hard to implement. There’s many options. But it boils down to doing what is best for the consumer while protecting your IP in an ETHICAL manner.

I was really eager about learning UE but after learning that there’s not offline installer I might just go for Unity. I only have good internet access at school where I would download and take it home.

Internet speed at my place is no so good. But still I was able to download the offline installer of Visual Studio which is about 7 GB in 2 days.

But the UE installer is so crazy, I am trying to download the engine since last 3 months. The progress bar just doesn’t move!

I can see 8 GB of data usage on my internet service provider’s site. But progress is just 50% i.e. about 3 to 4 GB.
According to other threads on the internet, it seems that the installer sets a timer per file and if that file doesn’t get fully downloaded, it just throws the partially downloaded file and starts that file again. Really

When it says “please wait” it can really take forever.

I have even seen the progress bar going reverse!!

For this much sized software, an offline installer is a must.

OMG. Just do the offline installer. I have no internet connection due to security reasons on my workstation. I dont want but I have t use unity now. At least they have some crappy offline option.

Sry but I cant belive that its the EULA thing. Everyone else can do it to, can’t they?
