hey, say if i have a house, the roof has bricks, and the house walls are stone, should the two things be 2 DIFFERENT materials or one material for ue4?

Make one base material with material parameters in it, like textures for base color, roughness, metallic etc... And create a material instance from this material by right clicking on it. Do this for every item in need of different settings.
