Unreal Editor performance issues

Hi, I seem to having trouble getting a smooth frame-rate while I am working within the Unreal Engine 4 Editor, My system specs are as follows, i7 950 running at 3.1Ghz, AMD HD5850, 8GB 1333mhz ram and Windows 7 64bit which is a clean installation with only Unreal Engine 4 installed and modeling programs. I am running the latest AMD Catalyst 13.12 Drivers, my frame-rate drops to a horrible 15-25fps when I seem to move the camera around with a basic level design, even when the graphical settings are on it’s lowest I hope someone has a solution for me and any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hey Crash,

While the HD5850 is a DirectX 11 card, it is a little older of a card and may not provide an optimal experience. One of our programmers, Martin Mittring, wrote up a post on how to improve performance by changing some of the in-editor settings: https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?1177-How-to-Improve-Frame-Rate-Through-Video-Settings. If you haven’t checked that out yet, take a look and see if his suggestions help you achieve better performance.

Hope this helps out!

Hi Steve,

I have looked at the performance settings post, even when changing everything to low settings the difference in performance is quite the same, the strange part is I can run all the Demo’s on highest quality settings given on a decent resolution of 1280x720, it is just the editor itself that has unstable performance.
