4.9 memory leak

Hello everyone,

I would like to report that all versions from master branch eat up RAM worse than Chrome! :stuck_out_tongue:

More details here:

P.S This is not exclusive to compiling. It happens even when i use PIE.

Hey ,

Thanks for reporting this. I wanted to follow up to ask if this is still occurring for you. 4.9 is a pretty active branch right now, so bugs like this are much more likely to crop up and have a high likelihood of being fixed as quickly as they appeared.

I’m going to try and reproduce locally, but I’m not even sync’d to 4.9 right now…if that’s any indication to avoid it until it has stabilized.

Hello Mat,

since 4.8 i get all sort of weird warnings and messages and that was the only reason i upgraded to 4.9 in hope to see them fixed. My gut tells me that this is a result of all the warnings i get regarding something this: LogBlueprint:Warning: Loaded invalid component bound event in node /Engine/Transient.EdGraph_4265:K2Node_ComponentBoundEvent_883.

Could you please explain to me what are all those (thousands for all my blueprints) warnings and why they appeared out of the blue?

Thank you.

Do you still have a pre-4.8 copy of your project that you can try converting to 4.9? I want to determine if this was a problem converting to 4.8 or to 4.9.

I still got the same problems. It even happens when i try to package my game. Memory consumption builds up as time progresses and by the time it reaches an aprox of 80% completion it crashes because my system runs out of memory… I domt think i have a 4.7 backup because i’ve been using 4.8 for months now. But i have 4.8 backups. What exactly do you want me to do?

When your memory gets out of control again, let it grow as high as you feel comfortable with. Then bring up the console with ~ and enter memreport -full. Rename the extentions on the .memreport file to .txt in the [ProjectName]/saved/Profiling/MemReports folder and then attach it here.

I just want to clarify. The warnings that you’re getting are in the log window when you open your project? Can you copy your logs or screenshot that window and send it to me? You said they appeared out of the blue while you were working in 4.8, or did they appear immediately after converting to 4.8.

after converting to 4.8 and they still persist in 4.9. Another thing is that my project takes 10(!!) minutes to load from my ssd.

Hi ,

I wanted to check if this is still an ongoing issue for you.

-.

Yes it is. Yesterday Unreal crashed twice from eating up my RAM while i was previewing my game. It starts up with about 6 GB of memory consumption and after a while it reaches 14+ and inventively crashes. And my project still takes ages to boot up.

Speak of the devil. As i was writing this look what just popped up

So, just today, we have a dev who is getting this repro internally. We are going to continue investigating.

This happens to me a couple times a day. My editor crawls up to 10GB of RAM usage and will call this same Windows crash error especially when I have other game dev applications open. This has been happening to me since 4.7. I’m on a 980, I have 16GB of RAM, and a i5 4670K

This has been happening to me too. If I leave 4.9 for 15 minutes; It goes from 173mb of memory up to 4GB (Maxes out the ram).

When idle, Obviously this shouldn’t be happening.

Hey Kitatus,

Can you open up a new answerhub thread (mention me in the body of the post and it should get assigned to me). I’d like to investigate this further with you.

-.

UE4.9 eats 2.5 GB on normal project opened on UE4.8.3 (600 MB).

I’m experiencing this memory leak on the current version of Unreal 4.9. I can barely use the editor for 10 min or less before my memory gets so full that I am forced to close Unreal. I can see the memory going up quickly while I have certain blueprints open. As soon as I close them, the memory stops going up but remains where it’s at. Open them again and the memory keeps rising until I get the message that I’m all out.

If you have a memory leak to report, please open a new AH post with your information. As they can happen for a variety of reasons, they need to be investigated on a case by case basis.

I have the same trouble. The memory leaks so quickly that I even have no time to close it.

You are doing this for veeery loooong tiiime… I hope that you will finish this at 2085 year…
