Blueprint execution wires not lighting up

I’m in the side scroller template and looking at the MyCharacter blueprint.
I don’t see any of the wires lighting up when playing the game.
I added a begin play event too, and that doesn’t light up either, although it does work.

I see the level blueprint wires light up, but not class blueprint wires.
What am I doing wrong?

In top toolbar of your blueprint editor, try selecting some actors from drop-down list.

Makes sense. I realized I could get it to work if I found and selected my character in the “Scene Outliner”, then in details under blueprint click “edit”, but your solution is so much better.
