Montage collision

Hi, Can anyone help?

I have a bot with an axe attached to him. The axe blue print consists of the static mesh (an axe) and a collision sphere. The collision sphere seems to lose it collision while my montage (the axe swing) is playing. I know that the sphere does have collision on it as the bot has AI and when he is in idle or walking to a target, the collision is enabled and I can’t run through the sphere. As soon as the montage plays, the axe (and the sphere) swings straight through my player.

I have been reading about root motion (which I have tried enabling) though has not fixed the problem.
