URGENT ! 4.7.6 freezing when importing the static mesh

4.7.6 version issue
Hi !
Our team has some problem, that we are struggling with for one week or so… and now we are running out of time.
We got some monster model ( currently not yet rigged ), which we tried to import into the engine. We tried different export settings and formats, editor still freezes when importing, every time… I would like to upload the model so someone from Epic Team could check it and find the issue.

Hi -

When you say it freezes are you getting a crash or is it just taking a very long time to import? Have you always CTRL-ALT-DELETE’d out of the program before importation completes? If you want us to look at the FBX please feel free to post it here.

Okay, while the engine is looking to be freezing it is actually still processing the mesh you have imported. In specific, it is actually triangulating the mesh. This can be a lengthy process and even on our computer here your mesh takes quite a bit of time to finally import. So one way to speed up this process is to already have triangulated the mesh before importing it into the engine.

The best news I can give you though, is starting with 4.8, large meshes like your monster will import significantly faster into the engine without any additional triangulation. I tested your mesh and it imported in less than 60 secs. in 4.8.
