4.8: No Debug Symbols in Crash Report

Heya,

As of 4.8, when my game crashes, I see engine functions and symbols just fine, but not my own.

I tried deleting Binaries, Intermediate and Saved, rebuilding and cleaning the project and the solution, regenerating VS project files, nothing helps. I am building DebugGameEditor Win64. The pdb files are right there in the Binaries folder, but even the CrashReport log files in AppData\Local\CrashReportTool don’t show my function names. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have since downloaded the engine source and built everything with DebugGame Editor, still no dice.

Thanks for letting us know about this issue. I ran some tests in 4.7.6 and 4.8, and was able to see the results that you described. I have submitted a report of my findings to have this investigated further (UE-17082).

Thanks . I imagine that this isn’t a “comment out the line of code” kind of bugfix and will take a while to handle. Is there anything that can be done as a band-aid in the meantime?

Unfortunately I am not familiar enough with what changed here to be able to suggest a possible workaround. I am hoping that we will be able to get this looked into soon.
