Open source: What do I need to know?
I would like to develop a game in the open and I want to upload everything to a git repository including the starter content. I know that I am allowed to share everything that I wrote but I am wondering what I need to do to also share the starter content?
Do I need to include a special license in the git repository?
Do the same rules apply if I want to upload assets from the marketplace?

You're correct that you can share everything you authored if you like. You can't share content provided by Epic with the general public, but you can put it on a git repository on the UnrealEngine GitHub network which makes it available to other UE licensees.
As for paid marketplace assets, those can't be made available to the general licensee population.
