Why is the Material Editor Crashing?

i come see the few nodes so far as well right before come to edit (may not be connected)

please let me know if i missing something i just cant so any thing for i missing Material Editor

well as this issue just wont stop i try fish more deeply into why found this log file of the new error include as well the old here
i am sorry i bugging you about at just i cant do much without mat editor

Does this happen on only one material you’ve made or does it crash when you open any material? Can you provide steps for me to take to reproduce this crash?

ok what i did is simple:

  1. open the mat editor
  2. just start add 2-3 textures
  3. add bit more nodes into them
  4. after few mins(30 sec to 2 mins) its crashing totally

few side nodes its i happens to view a mat till i change him wont happens when start add/edit it don’t matter where its happens 100% of cases for me

The problem appears to be caused by ShaderCompilerWorker crashing. Someone from the Rendering team will take a look, thanks!

Ok, here are the steps I am taking:

  1. Open Content Examples
  2. Create new material
  3. Add 3 texture samples (I chose analoghat, anchor, and bad)
  4. add a lerp node, plug each of the three textures into one of the three inputs ( A, B, Alpha)
  5. create 2 multiply nodes
  6. multiply the lerp node by a constant 3 vector (0,1,0), multiply this multiplication by a new texture sample, I used cross.
  7. add a lerp node, and in the alpha section plug in a new texture. I used kismetbackground
  8. plug a constant 3 vector(.5,0,.5) into b. Now plug all of this into base color
  9. make a new texture node (I used defaultNormal_uncompressed), plug this into the normal map.

At this point I have not experienced any crash, even after waiting 5 minutes. Please follow the steps above and let me know if this crashes your editor. Thank you!

I’ve just started having a similar problem since upgrading to 4.3. I seem to get a similar crash when trying to create a fresh material or if I tweak another material long enough. It doesn’t seem to be any particular action causing it. Like said, anywhere from 30sec - about 2 minutes. Wast just trying to get the basics down, a texture mixed with a Vector 3 and a lerp.

Here is the error code I get after the crash,

Were you able to reproduce this in a blank project with no additional content? Also can you post your logs here so we can have a look? Thank you!

Here is the log file. I didn’t try it on a fresh scene, but the problem would occur very commonly and finally went away. After about 12-15 crashes at different points. I shut down my computer and walked away for a few hours. Came back in homes that restart might help things. I crashed again about 6-7 times while trying to build a new material. It was never really any particular action, just usually when I’d try to hook up one node to another.

Finally at some point, the problem randomly stopped and I was able to continue working, but the issue was very strange. I have more than adequate hardware that’s less than a month old an haven’t encountered any issues till this one.
Even stranger, a friend of mine locally with a similar system ran into this very crash issue when try to build materials himself on a completely different project. I had told him that, I hadn’t had this issue till 4.3, but he said it’s happen to him before, just more now so. But he had also claimed the restart helped him. Like I said before, it didn’t have much effect on me. It just randomly stopped later.

Hi pixelvspixel can I see your dxdiag? There is a possibility it may be specific to certain hardware or drivers. Further, can you detail what steps you took that led up to the crash?
