FBX Animation import 4.8 is broke

Hi guys,

I’m unable to import any of my animations anymore since 4.8. It is working just fine in 4.7.6.

I export just the bone hiearchy animation which I have always done.

I get a message saying there is no bone hierarchy which is nonsense. I’ve exported hundreds of animations and even reimporting my old animation files is now broken.

This is a big problem for me at its current state. I have to import everything into a 4.7.6 project and migrate.

Thanks!

same issue here.

Hi Devero -

Can you share one of these FBX Files for us to use to test? Feel free to use the Forums if you would like to keep the asset private.

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

Hi Eric thanks for the quick response. I have sent you a private message in the forums with the assets.

I was able to confirm if I export the mesh out with the animation, I can get it to work without doing the whole migration workaround. However, I would need to go back and re-export all of my previous work :frowning: Hopefully, you guys can just flip the bit that got toggled =)

Thanks

Hi Devero -

It looks like the Animation FBX you sent me has a Prefix setup on all the bones so all the bones are named SomethingRig::Root. I am not able to import that FBX even in 4.7.6. If you can, could reexport that one fbx and not include the Prefix and send it to me again?

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

I added my file as a secondary reference

Hello again -

Ok so after some investigation, this does appear to be an issue in 4.8 and we are currently testing a solution to the issue now. I will keep you informed as we work toward implementing a solution.

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

Thanks Eric for the prompt responses into this matter =)

The bug number for this is UE-17384. It is already fixed in 4.9 Main Branch, but we are looking into having it integrated for a 4.8 hotfix. No promises as it hasn’t yet been integrated. Depends on if the fix is deemed as too major of a change for a hotfix.

Can you point me to the changelist so i can test?

Thanks and Eric for the timely help =)

Hey DanielKarp,

We were just looking back into this. I was wondering if you could open up a separate answerhub issue as I think yours may be due to a bad export.
