Change shader model to SM4 crash

In the 4.8.0 release after change the shader model from the settings in the engine in the top of the viewport to SM4 then stop and crash with a report of null shader, using the 4.8.0 build from launcher.

Hi -

I have not been able to reproduce this crash. Can you include your Machine ID from the submitted Crash Report here? Also are you doing this in a specific project, and can it be reproduce in a blank project without starter content or first person template?

Thank You

Hi Hevedy -

Thank you for the additional information. It looks like you have a Light Propagation Volume in use in your level. LPV is not compatible with Shader Model 4 and does require Shader Model 5. That being said, I have entered a report of the crash, to see if we can get a warning placed in the engine about switching Shader Models with LPVs active, for reference UE-17333.

Thanks you, yeah probably i got that enabled in the engine folder but is for other project, i don’t need that in this, is possible to disable for this the lpv and for the other have enabled ? or i need to disable for all ?
Will be nice to have a setting to enable or disable that for the projects like other things.

Hey -

No it has not officially been enabled and does have to be set for the engine entirely.

Thank You
