Epics ART tool Doesn't import my .fbx mocap?

I’m working through maya. I have an fbx file from a bought mocap package. This is my workflow so far.

Part 1

-I’ve retargeted the mocap onto the hero- using the human IK setup

-I then baked the animation onto my hero-

-deleted the imported mocap and exported the animation as an .fbx file

-I make a new scene and “add character for animation” through the Epic Games menu and select my export file that has the same naming as the .fbx now has.

-I then press Import mocap, but it simply just makes the range 1 frame with no animation.

Part 2 (this might be a reason for part 1)

-Sometimes when I press “Add Character for Animation” or “Animation Interface” it keeps saying “No Character in scene, would you like to add one?”, only importing a new control rig. It keeps doing it as long as I press “yes” and I end up with tons of ctrl rigs without character meshes.

Am I doing anything wrong? Or is this a bug?

I just wanted to let you know that I’ve got an email out asking about this issue. I’ll let you know if I hear anything, but feel free to bump this issue and I’ll bump the email thread.

Hey there!

Unfortunately, I do not have enough information here to figure out what the problem might be.
What version of Maya are you running? Would it be possible to share your FBX file?

The “No character in scene” dialog usually appears when your character doesn’t have a thumbnail on disk. Did you create this character or was it shared by someone? The thumbnail should be located in /MayaTools/General/Icons/ART/Thumbnails/YourProjectName and each character has 2 files: characterName.bmp and characterName_small.bmp. If you don’t have those files, consider just creating some from scratch real quick or getting the originals. Maybe that’s the only problem here, and the import tool is failing because of this.

Thanks for the answer! I actually just found out myself, that I forgot to bake the animation onto my . That seemed to solve the problem. And I don’t have a thumbnail for the char, so I’ll add that. Thanks!

awesome! Happy Animating!

Hi I have the same problem, I can easily add the character once published but the import mocap doesnt work well. when I import a .fbx animation during the skinning stage it works, but after publishing cant import mocaps properly

Hi nexust56,

What exactly do you mean by published? As this is a rather old post about the ART tool, I’d like to ask that you open a new thread.

Sorry,
I’m using now the “Add character for animation”, I have done a full character setup using ARTv1, Now when I use this feature the character has all the controls IK/FK, but when I import a mixamo mocap .fbx file using the “Import Motion” feature it doesnt work.
