Computer reboots during cooking

Machine will frequently reboot while cooking assets. Happens almost every day.
I find that I have to run Visual Studio in Administrator Mode to get it to succeed.

Sometimes there is a blue screen and once there was an out of memory error.

Any ideas?

Hey CarlosOnline,

Can you attach your dxdiag info? I know you provided a lot of your system specs, but it helps to be consistent when investigating these crashes.

When you say cooking assets, do you mean compiling the project or do you mean it crashes during the cooking phase of packaging your game?

Can you provide the additional info that I asked about?

Reboots while cooking when running the game, either from debugger or from editor.

Game is already compiled.

I launch using the command line:
UE4Editor.exe MyGame -game /Game/Maps/MyMap

Just got it again:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (HTTP.sys)

Hi it has been happening alot today as I try different maps of the game.

Is there anything you can suggest?

So this may be an issue that we won’t be able to reproduce locally. Are you getting any logs from your project? They’ll be in PROJECTNAME\saved\Logs. I’ll need the log that is specifically from an editor session that caused a reboot. Best way to do this is wait until it reboots again, then get the latest log (instead of guessing which one is right).

-.

Here is the log. It has been scrubbed.
Also the log may not flush on every write - meaning the final actions may be missing from the log.

I asked our core team about this issue and they suggested/asked a few things.

  1. Run “sfc /scannow” in an admin command prompt.
  2. Are you overclocking at all?
  3. Can you ensure that your Win 8.1 network drivers are up to date?
  4. Could you run temp monitor software (HWMonitor is what I use) to see if anything is overheating during the heavy operation that is cooking?

Thanks,

-.

I stopped using the machine - it was too much of a problem. The reboot happened on other machines with the same hardware configs. I suggest you look at getting the same hardware and investigate the problem for future users.

Or notify clients that there may be a problem with this configuration.

Thanks

Without further testing and confirmation from you that it isn’t fixed by some of the suggestions I’ve made(or that they could lead to a solution), we cannot confirm that it is a hardware configuration problem.

I have marked this as answered as you are no longer using the problematic machines.
