Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

UE4 crashes on building lighting

I'm running into an usual issue. Every time I building lighting, UE4 crashes. Not even just the engine, my whole desktop locks up.

Brand new installation of UE4, brand new installation of Windows 8.1 Pro (fully updated though), brand new FPS starter set, crashes on lighting randomly usually around 15%.

I have the build logs from the lighting, but it isn't very telling. I have several of them with all identical items logged near the end. These are the last things logged before the crash:

My desktop has an AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core processor, 32GB of ram, AMD Radeon R9 290X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory.

Naturally I've updated all my drivers. I've never had any issues rendering in any other software.

I'm at a loss here, can anyone point me in the right direction?

I may have found my own solution. In addition to better cooling, I found the 'turbo' function in the BIOS causes problems when rendering or maxing out the CPU. Disabling that fixed my issues.
