4.8.1 Startup Crash

Haven’t used UE in a couple weeks and hopped on last night and saw there was an update from 4.8 to 4.8.1. I updated UE and now get this crash report (below) every time I try to launch 4.8.1. I’ve restarted my computer and verified 4.8.1. I have a couple projects that are in 4.7.6 that launch fine. I will attach the error report below. Any ideas on how to fix this is greatly appreciated.

Hey CSandeman,

Have you tried verifying your version of the engine? If so, did that work? Do you have any 4.8 projects on your computer, or are they all 4.7.6? If you have any 4.8 projects on your computer, please go to the folder location and open it from there, it should load up 4.8.1 for you without crashing.

Let me know if this works for you or not, looking forward to hearing back from you!

I tried verifying my version of the engine and I also just went into the 4.8 project folder and tried opening it up from there and I still got the crash error.

Hey,

It looks like we have an issue still with the Oculus being turned on/plugged in while opening up the Editor. UE-16177 should be resolved in 4.8.2.

To fix this issue so that you can get into the editor, please turn everything Oculus related off on your computer, simply shut down all of the programs associated with the device from the task manager. Make sure the device is unplugged from your computer too. Once you’ve done that, then try to run the editor and it should work.

After the editor has started up, you should be able to turn the Oculus programs and device back on without any problem.

Not sure why your latest comment doesn’t show up here… but I don’t have my Oculus plugged in or have any programs trying to run the Oculus and I am still receiving this error. I was able to run one of my projects in 4.8 a couple weeks ago but 4.8.1 seems to have issues because I am still receiving the crash error.

I’d suggest uninstalling the Oculus SDK from your computer, or looking up to see if the SDK for the Oculus has been updated past 0.6.0.0. If it hasn’t, I would simply uninstall it for now, we don’t expect this bug to be fixed until 4.8.2.

Thanks , after totally uninstalling all the Oculus drivers and SDK and reinstalling, UE 4.8.1 is now working correctly.

That’s awesome news! I’m glad you’re able to get back into UE4! We should have this bug fixed by 4.8.2!

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Uninstalling the Oculus SDK also worked for me. I had the version previous to 0.6.0.0 installed was seeing the same crash.

So I experience the same thing, but only when remote desktoped to the computer running UE 4.8.1. If I open the system locally and then remote in, works fine. Doesn’t matter if Oculus is on or off. Only other way to bypass it is uninstall the Oculus driver. UE 4.7.6 opens without issue.
