Projects not working on some Android devices since 4.8.1 (black screen and crash)

If I try to run any project on Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7510) it only shows black screen and goes back to homescreen. No Force Close or any other dialog. They do work on other devices that I tested (Galaxy S5 and Moto G 1st Generation). All of the projects I am trying to run used to work just fine with engine version 4.7 on all devices.

For example if I create Tappy Chicken project with 4.7 it runs on all devices. If I create it with 4.8.1 it doesn’t run on Galaxy Tab 10.1, but it does on every other device I try.

I am attaching LogCat file.

Hi dejant,

What is the OS of your Galaxy Tab 10.1?

Hi wittlief,

It’s 4.0.4.

Hello dejant,

I was unable to reproduce this issue on our end. I have tested this with tappy chicken and while it did hang for a bit on the black screen, the application did start working. I noticed that you said there is no forced close. Could you try letting it set for a couple of minutes and see if the game will eventually launch?

Ok, so I tried packaging Tappy Chicken and running it on our Galaxy Note Tab 10.1. It worked fine, however our Tab is the SM-P600 and is running 4.4.

At this point, try downloading the official Tappy 4.8 release from the Google Play store and trying that one. If it doesn’t work, then it seems that your device and OS combo isn’t supported any longer.

Hi Rudy,

app shows black screen for about 10 seconds and then exits without Force Close to device’s home screen. I suspect that this is probably because crash happens in native part of application.

I downloaded app from Google Play and it works fine. I will try to pack apk for publishing and see if that works.

I compiled apk with release key, but I still get the same result.

I noticed that, my apk is 65MB while the one on the Google Play is less than half that size. Can this be a problem?

Hello dejant,

If you are able to upgrade the OS for the device, could try upgrading to the same version that Wittlief was using during their test (version 4.4) and see if that has any affect?
