Error 2503 and 2502 during installation of Epic Games Launcher

Hi,
I’ve attempted to instal the Epic Games Launcher, the file is EpicGamesLauncherInstaller-2.3.0-2604750.msi, and at the final part, when it’s copying new files, I get the error 2503 and 2502 pops up as soon as I close the first dialog box.
I saw on the forum that this might be caused by a permissions issue on Program Files but I’m not even installing on the C Drive so that shouldn’t be a problem. Any ideas?

Hey McAztec,

Take a look at our Launcher Troubleshooting Guide and follow the suggestion solutions to your issue.

Launcher Troubleshooting Guide

Let me know if you still need help if you are unable to solve your problem.

Thanks,

The two error codes you mentioned do indicate a permission issue. Try running the installer as administrator as outlined in this thread: The Installer has encountered an unexpected error - Getting Started & Setup - Epic Developer Community Forums

If that does not work, we’ll need installer logs to help pinpoint the problem. The troubleshooting guide AndrewHurley posted will describe how to get those logs.

First of all please excuse my very late response, I was unable to check the forums for a while, now back to the topic at hand.
I do run it as an admin, not only that my user is the admin but I also have to give it permission to make changes to the PC which I do (I’m reffering to the User Consent UI)
The new installer (2.3.2) does this aswell as the previous one that I had this issue on (2.3.0). It seems we do indeed need the logs but how do I acquire those?

I have obtained the log but it’s to long to put it in a comment to your answer so I’ll post it down below.

Here’s the log:

This is most likely not an issue directly related to the launcher installer but an issue Windows Installer is having itself on your system. According to the logs, Windows Installer seems to be having issues running things out of the C:\Windows\Installer folder. This folder probably has incorrect permissions setup on your computer. A quick internet search turns up a ton of similar issues with potential solutions. Here is an example where users get past the issue by fixing the permissions settings on the C:\Windows\Installer folder: link text

The fix in that post did nothing since it was all in order as permissions go, but I did find something similar on microsoft support and one of the fixes was starting the installer with cmd (ran as admin ofc) which did work. If anyone else will get this problem I’ll be sure to share it. Thank you for your help 0xDEADBEEF.

Well, starting the installer with cmd( ran as admin) did the trick.

Glad you got past the issue! Running as administrator is one of the items mentioned in the Launcher Troubleshooting Guide and in the very first thread I linked you to

In the Troubleshooting guide it mentioned running the Installer as admin, which I was already doing without any result, I had to run the installer from within an elevated cmd window instead of just double-clicking and clicking “yes” in the consent UI to make it work.

Ok, I think I see the confusion. I’ll make sure we update the troubleshooting guide to be more clear on that point because double clicking and accepting the UAC prompt is not the same as running as administrator in some cases.

The “Run as administrator” option was not even present when I right-clicked it to look for that, which seemed quite odd, guess the cmd trick was supposed to do just this, like a work-around for that.

mine wont let me do any of that

Hi AnonMerc,

If you are having trouble, could you please start a new AnswerHub topic for tracking purposes?

I have the same problem and I do not know how to solve it :frowning:

Run cmd as admin and paste this code

msiexec /i C:\Users\Silver\Downloads\EpicInstaller-7.7.0-fortnite-8fe19e2378554c299400a9974c30e172.msi

This is the solution for win10, just change Silver to yours.

,abre el cmd en modo administrador, cambia gamer por el nombre de usuario po el tuyo es todo…
msiexec /i C:\Users\Gamer\Downloads\EpicInstaller-7.16.0-fortnite.msi

I have a Chinese motherboard with dual Xeon 2697v4, I don’t know if this could be the problem
But the solution is to launch cmd as administrator, and execute:
C:\Users\Pedro\Downloads\EpicInstaller-15.7.0-unrealEngine.msi
it has worked perfect.
Thanks a lot from Spain
