High triangle count of shapes from starter content

Is there a reason for the high triangle count of the shape static meshes provided with the starter content?

For example, a simple plane has 32 triangles, instead of 2. Does it have to do with lighting or so?

Would you advise against creating my own shapes in Blender with a minimal triangle count?

Tessellation requires the mesh to have some amount of triangles beforehand so maybe they provided that plane just in case you want to make tests on tessellated materials. In any case though, it’s always better to make your own meshes in your modeling program as those starter assets are there to speed up the learning process if you are new to the editor really.
