UE4 on OSX Yosemite isn't giving me proper error messages

I have UE4 installed on both Windows 7 and Mac OSX Yosemite. I use Blender to make models then export them as .fbx for import into UE4. I can sometimes get this working but at other times I get an error that reads: No triangles were found on mesh ". In Windows the error message will tell me what mesh the error refers to, for example, box56, which I can then find in Blender and modify or delete to make the import work. On Yosemite the quotes are always empty.

Hey Katnip,

Would you mind providing me with a test .fbx that causes this error message to occur, so I can test it on my end?

Thanks,

When I try to attach it here I get an error: The attachment is not permitted because the filetype is invalid.

Put it into a folder and zip that folder. Then attach it here.

Alright there you go

Hey Katnip,

I downloaded your .fbx file and tried to import it into Unreal and received the same error message. I then tried to import it into Maya. I was able to import it and what I discovered was there was some animation information on the text. I deleted that information and reexported as an .fbx. I then re imported the .fbx into unreal and it worked just fine.

If you are looking to import this into UE4 with animation I would look here.

This guy goes through the whole process of adding animation in blender and then exporting into UE4. Finally he shows the steps in UE4.

Thanks,

Hi ,
I am not trying to add animation information to the model, just import it into UE4. When I import it using windows, it tells me which cube or part of the mesh is giving the error. When I try with Yosemite, the error message doesn’t include the problematic part.

What I would do is make sure there is no animation information assigned. Above is what I found that fixed the issue. But, go back through and make sure there is nothing in your settings and start from there.

No this isn’t the fix. The fix would be to provide adequate error reporting in Yosemite.

Interesting, I was able to recreate the same error on a Mac Book Pro. I still get the same error message of no triangles on mesh. Version 10.10.3. So, in Yosemite you don’t receive the part of the error report about the triangle on your mesh?

I am checking with our Mac Guru’s to see if this is a known issue.

Hey Katnip,

This error is being investigated and as soon as I hear if anyone has been able to create a solid reproduction I will let you know.
