Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Is there a way to convert project to an earlier version of UE4?

I am using 1.8.1 (and 1.8.0) and I have had nothing but headaches and problems. I tried to migrate to UE 1.7.4 but it won't read since it's using a newer version. I even tried copying the files manually but it just wouldn't read them, then. So, are there any way for me to go back? 1.7.4 was much more stable for me. I have so many slow downs and crashes with 1.8.1 (and 1.8.0) and I am really getting tried of it.

Thank you for reading and if possible, could you look into some of my earlier questions? ^-^

Have a nice day, everyone! And thanks, again!

Newer files that have been edited cannot be opened in older version of the editor. This is true of just about any software that I'm aware of.

Thank you for your reply. Well, yeah, I suppose you are right but are there any way for me to get it back in an older state without the trouble of having to redo it or do I just have to suck it up and redo it?

I think Lucas-san try to save like "save as", in older version and can work, but from ue4 for ue3 ? I suppose if are from ue4 4.76 to 4.8.1, for example it should be possible, given the difficulties that sometimes found in moving into new versions with the inherent problems in addition. For I dont not know if it's possible but it was convenient, a backup version to have, you can count on. If anyone knows answer this question, surely will help a lot of undecided people in moving on to more current versions.

Ah, no, I actually made the scene in 4.7.6 and converted it to 4.8.0 but then I had this weird overly blown color and this horrible, horrible slowdown whenever I would "Play" the project. So, I, then, decided to remake the project in 4.8.0 from the scratch it worked. Well, actually, I was able to copy the objects in the scene directly from 4.7.6 to 4.8.1, as in "Copy/Paste" as long as the objects had the same name it would work. The game goes for the lights and such. You can't do it the other way around due to some of properties have been modified, I guess? Anyhow, I have now redone it, again and I am back to the more stable and faster 4.7.6.

However, if anyone has a solution, feel free to post it here.

And thank you very much or you comments and help.

Hi Lucas-san,

i have a workaround for you:

  1. Clone your project

  2. Open the desired "older" version of UE4 and create a new project.

  3. Close it and open the cloned project

  4. Migrate the whole content to the content folder of the "new project"

  5. Export the input or whatever shall be exportet from the settings section

  6. Open the "new project" and import all exportet settings from the cloned project

  7. Manually change the GameMode or parts of, if you had some in the cloned project

  8. Test it

Hope that helps

Cheers

Thank you very much. I have already tried that. I tried it doing it from the project itself and manually moving the files. The first gave me an error message about the "version numbers" being different, or something like that. The second just didn't load at all. Keep in mind that those were two new, different projects, Not the same, to make sure that the error wasn't from the first try. I even tried to convert the project to an older version but that didn't work out either.

Again, thank you for your suggestion.

I wish 4.8 wouldn't run this badly on my computer. ^-^
