Laptop overheating and then shutting down

Hey Guys,

My System shuts down when using UE4. There is no BSOD or anything and it doesn’t generate any dump files either.
This happens only when I’m running it with nVidia GPU. If I switch to Intel HD, it runs fine (slower, but it doesn’t crash or anything)

I used Open Hardware Monitor to see if CPU is over heating - here’s something I noticed.
When using nVidia GPU, my CPU temp is around 10C more (around 85C+). Probably why it shuts down?

Has anyone faced this issue?

Specs:
CPU : i7 3610QM (Quad core with hyper threading)

RAM: 8 GB

OS : Win 7 64-Bit

GPU: nVidia GeForce GT 630M

85C is too high the termal protection probably kicks in and shut downs the computer

Is there setting / tool I can use so that it warns me when a certain temperature exceeds?

It’s an ASUS Laptop. K55VM is the model I think. Other specs in my post. Is there any other info needed that’ll be useful?

Can you tell us what machine this is? We can’t promise any help with hardware problems like this, but we do have contacts at Nvidia and other hardware companies so we can try and make folks aware if we know who to contact.

No thank you. I don’t have Asus contacts, but i’ll share this info with Nvidia. It wouldn’t hurt for you to share the info you have with Asus support.

In BIOS if in anything, but really running components on 85C is not healthy for them so instead of removing the limit, you should think how to lower the temperature. Usually some laptops start to overheat due to age as vents gathers more and more dust and components starts to not be cooled properly, you could also check if you vents has open space to gather air. Either way best would be to do what Paul saying, contact ASUS, the might help you out

I googled, and looks like many users are having the same problem with the model. It’s like 2 yrs old now… guess I’m f**d :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks for the help anyway
