Why does deleting textures take a long time?

I am using UE 4.0.2 and when I go to delete textures it takes a painstakingly long time just to delete 10 textures. If I delete them one at a time, its manageable. I have to delete about 100 textures from my project and it freezes if I try to do this in one operation. However, deleting meshes and materials works very quickly even if deleting 100’s at once.

Is anyone else having this same result?

AMD Phenom II x4 Black Edition 3.3 GHz -
8GB Patriot Series Gamer RAM -
EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB

UPDATE: This even happens when trying to move or copy the textures into another folder.

If those textures have no dependencies with any materials or maps you can just go to your project folder and delete them outside of the editor.
