Unable to launch editor

I am unable to launch the editor. The loading screen comes up and is completed, though nothing comes up afterwards. I have had a look in the log files from the launcher and there was a lot of missing files and errors which made the program abort all modules and close. I have tried reinstalling it, but i had no luck with it.

Here is the log file:

Hey ,

In order to better assist you, could you please upload your DXDiag to your next comment? In order to run the editor, we do recommend the following computer specifications:

What are Unreal Engine 4’s system requirements?
For developing with UE4, we recommend a desktop PC with Windows 7 64-bit or a Mac with Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later, 8 GB RAM and a quad-core Intel or AMD processor, and a DX11 compatible video card. UE4 will run on desktops and laptops below these recommendations, but performance may be limited.

Are you opening the editor from the Epic Games Launcher or did you download the editor from GitHub? If you have downloaded the editor from the Epic Games Launcher, could you please try to open it without the launcher? In order to do this, please go to where the Launcher was installed and follow this file path: Epic Games\4.8\Engine\Binaries\Win64 and open the file ‘UE4Editor.exe’.

If the Editor crashes from there too, please go back into the Launcher and ‘verify’ your version of the editor by following these steps:

  • Go to Library
  • Click on the down-arrow under 4.8.1
  • Click on ‘Verify’ from within the menu

Once you’ve verified your version of the engine, could you please attempt to open the editor again from the Launcher and from the file path above? If you crash, please save the to a .txt file separately and upload them to your next reply.

Looking forward to hearing back from you, thanks!

Verifying it did not work, i have tried that before. I have attached some , but i am not sure how to find the DXDiag .

I found out how to get the dxdiag [link text][1]

49782-dxdiag.txt (79.6 KB)

Were you able to open the editor by going to this file path: Epic Games\4.8\Engine\Binaries\Win64 and open the file ‘UE4Editor.exe’?

I want to also verify that you’re able to open the Epic Games Launcher and it is indeed the actual 4.8.1 version of the Editor which isn’t populating for you once loaded?

Do you have a VR system installed on your computer, or just sitting idly in the background? If so, please shut down the VR system software and unplug the device from your machine.

Your assistance is much appreciated, thanks!

I am unable to open the editor through that path. I am however able to open up the Epic Games launcher and i have downloaded the 4.8.1 version of the editor. I do not have a VR system installed on my computer.

Hey

Since the editor did not launch when you went to the direct path, I would highly suggest that you uninstall the editor at this time and reinstall it. You can easily do that by going to the Epic Games Launcher and clicking on the drop-down arrow, there is a ‘remove’ button listed there which will uninstall that version of the editor.

Once it’s reinstalled, please let me know if you’re still running into this error. Thanks!

That did not work, i have updated to 4.8.2 and tried with the new version. Both did not work

Do you have any additional programs running on your machine when you’re trying to launch the Editor? You may have some conflicting programs or you may have accidentally selected your firewall/anti-virus to actually block the program from opening. Have you looked into the black listed programs on your computer within your anti-virus?

Let me know, thanks!

I do not have any additional programs running while opening the editor, nor is it blocked in the firewall.

Hey

Have you tried reinstalling version 4.8.2 on your computer? I do not see an explicit error in the that were provided. It’s possible a file could have installed incorrectly, which cause a corruption.

It did not work, i reinstalled without any improvements.

When you reinstalled UE4, did you try opening it from this file path: Epic Games\4.8\Engine\Binaries\Win64 and open the file 'UE4Editor.exe again? If not, please try to.

If UE4 still is not opening, it’s highly suggested that you uninstall the Launcher and UE4 4.8.2 from your system. Once they’re completely uninstalled, please reinstall them and make sure that your firewall and/or anti-virus does not block the program as it’s possible that your anti-virus or firewall could believe that UE4 is a virus when it is not.

Let me know how it goes, thanks!

I did try with the path, but it did not open. I have reinstalled the launcher and 4.8.2 and it is not blocked by my firewall or my antivirus. It still is unable to function

Hey

I’m gathering additional information for you. In the meantime though, I was wondering if you had full admin privileges on your computer?

Yes, i do have full admin privileges

Hey

Do you have any saved within the file path: D:\Epic Games\4.8\Engine\Saved it’s likely under another folder called ‘’. If you do, please upload them for me.

Thank you.

There is only one folder there, “Unrealbuildtool”. There are some build config files there, “xml” files

Hey

I have spoken with the developers and we’ve put in a report to correct the wording of the error you’re getting, since it’s not specific enough.

With that being said, we did notice within your that it looks like one of your monitors may be set up on the onboard graphics card instead of your GTX?

The also read as if the editor got an actual quit command from something:

Thank you!

Oh that was embarrasing, my brother had set up his pc with the hdmi cable into the motherboard instead of the gfx card. The editor works now. The problem should have been easier to find than it was. Thank you for helping me out.
