UE4 Crashes everytime at startup after trying to record movie using Matinee

Hi, I am getting a crash every time I try to open my project. This started after I attempted to record a 1920x1080 movie using matinee and the editor crashed through the process and I had to force quit, every time I try to run the project since the program crashes on the loading screen before the editor even appears. This is the same no matter what computer I run it on and I had no editor issues beforehand.

I am looking to see if there is any potential means of fixing this so I can keep as much work as possible, I have attached the crash log for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks in advance, if there is any other information required let me know.

Crash Log

Hey JBroderick,

Firstly, make a copy of the Project you are having issues with so you have a backup. Next, go into your copied Projects folder directory and located the ‘Saved’ folder. There will be a folder created if you have any Matinee recordings saved into another folder labeled ‘Video Captures.’ Open this folder and delete any saved video files within, and then attempt to open the project.

Let me know if this resolved your issue or if you need further help.

Regards,

Hi ,

Like many I have been experiencing this problem. Creating an AVI movie in matinee worked until recently. I am currently using version 4.9.1. I’ve added a few particles to my scene since it worked last. Now it just crashes every single time. I have deleted all the old files in my “Video Captures” Folder, and restarted to no avail. I have attached my crash report and what it reveals every time, not sure what to do next. Any help would be great getting me on the right track with this issue

Thank you,

Hey Nathan,

So in order to assist you in an efficient manner, could you provide me with your full crash logs attached in a zip folder to your response?

If you need help finding these logs take a look at our How to Report a Bug sticky post on the Forums.

I would also like some more context as to what you added before the crash? In other words, some simple steps to follow to see what you added (particle effects, etc.) to get the crash to occur.

How are you spawning, and how heavy is the particle effect?

Thanks,

Thanks ,

For your prompt reply. I actually figured out a work around. I was trying to render out a 1920 x 1080 movie on a 1280 x 1024 monitor. I’m not entirely sure why it didn’t render out an .AVI file when I incorporated 5 basic particle systems into the scene. But I transferred the project file to my laptop which has a 1920 x 1080 screen size and matinee rendered out a movie without any crashes or hiccups. All seems to be working well now. Maybe this info can help others. Thanks for showing me how to report a bug, that’s info I needed as well.

Take care buddy,
