Skylight issue

Hi there,

when I drop a default skylight into my scene, the whole scene get’s unreasonable bright and washed out.

I’m on OSX 10.9.2, Macbook Pro, GTX650M

Thanks!

There are too many variables to your question. How bright is your dominate light? Skylight? Is post processing on?take a screen capture please.

It’s just the default scene with all screen FX enabled, a directional light with a intensity of 5 and a reflection sphere
And it’s all fine until I drop a skylight into the scene.

You can see the result in the screenshot, I’ve attached.

I would hold off on saying there is a problem. Skylight takes the average screen color and applies it as global illumination. Plus that material is very reflective. Try putting grass down and a box as a house, and see the results. Lighting is a concert of lights working together.

I’m pretty sure this is a bug. I know how the Skylight works. And it doesn’t matter what material I use. Reflective or not.
Furthermore, I just found someone here, who has the same issue on a Mac. But when he opens the very same scene on a Windows machine, it works without any issues.

It looks like a bug for the Mac version.

I really appreciate your replies. But I think this is something an Epic employee should take care of.
It’s not the first Mac related bug I’ve found.

Best!

Being on a Mac I would say yes a bug.

It can be a Mac related bug, but just to be safe what have you changed in your post process volume considering you said all screen FX is enabled? You may want to reset bloom and lens flare values to default if they arent already and see if that helps.

I didn’t change any of the values. It’s all by default.

I attached another screenshot that shows the same setup, just with a non-reflective material.
And the other one, is with all FX disabled. I really don’t think it is supposed to look like that.

Yeah, that is some craziness alright. Does it do the same if you insert a cubemap as the source of the skylight?

So you get the same results, Christopher?
I think it should be easy for Epic to recreate the issue on a Mac.

Here is another screen with all FX disabled and reflective materials.

I have a mac pro 2013, but I’m now using a my CAD pc for this. I don’t get your same problems but I called a buddy he is has your MacPro and is getting the same issue. We kind of know they are going to update everything when they can. So we are doing a vertical slice on the PC and will be working on the programming until the new update.

I have the same problem. On my PC the level works fine but on mac its all bugged. Blue/red lights and cant see much else, like the first picture on this post. Would be nice with an update for OS to fix this issue.

Hello,

It appears that this issue was lost a while back and was not followed up with a proper answer. I apologize for that, it should not have happened. I am going through and checking up on any missed issues and seeing if they are still occurring.

A lot of errors have been resolved since the original question was posted. Can you confirm that you still need help with this issue in 4.2.1? If so, please post to let us know. I am marking this as answered for tracking purposes, but it will be reopened if commented on.

Thank you for your patience,

It stopped with the new updates.
