Dedicated Server only uses LocalHost IP

Hello,

I have set up my dedicated server. I can join with several clients. It works perfect. The only problem is that the dedicated server is using a localhost IP of 192.168.0.4. How can I change the dedicated server IP address to my computer IP address so I can test my game with friends?

Thanks!

Matthew

You shouldn’t change the dedicated servers IP, its just the internal IP it uses as it should. Go into your router and open a port for the dedicated server ( should be 7777 ) and make certain its forwarded with your internal IP, then people should be able to use your external IP as a connection. Search (myip) or something on Google.

Hi Djarthas - First off, thanks for help me! I read up on port forwarding per your comments and I think I figured it out. I believe the port forwarding was the issue. Also, I was testing with my work computer as the remote client and it apparently has a lot more security than my personal comp does so it wouldn’t connect. So I reversed the client/host and ran the server on my work computer while using my personal computer as the remote client and wallah, it worked!

Next step is trying to connect from a remote client not on my personal home network. In theory since I am using the public IP and port forwarding, it should work.

Thanks, again for your help.

Matthew

What if you have more than one NIC and you want to host the dedicated server on a specific one?

Thank you so much! I’ve been stuck on this for days. I didn’t realize I was supposed to connect using the external IP!
