UE4 crashes when dragging certain objects into the viewport

(Version 4.8.2 - 2614606)

Since I am relatively new, I wanted to get started with video tutorials. After the first few videos I decided to take a break and continue later - up until now everything worked just fine.

But then, after my break, the program crashed whenever I tried to import the sm_glasswindow via drag & drop from the content browser into the viewport.

For those who are wondering: I was following the tutorial found here. This means I was only using a simple first person template with the starter contents.

I did check if the project was corrupted, but apparently UE4 crashes whenever I drag & drop the mentionned prop into the viewport for every project template except a blank project.

After the first crash I noticed a notification about updating (from 4.8.1 to 4.8.2) in the launcher, although it did not change anything.

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing the problem and how to fix it?

Hi DyMoX -

Thank you for your report. We will begin investigation into this issue as soon as possible. If we are unable to reproduce the problem, or need more information, we will follow up with some additional questions for you. Otherwise, we will post an ‘Answer’ once the issue has been logged in our bug database or we have a solution for it.

A great place to start is if you are getting an engine crash, please post the Machine ID number which appears in the Engine’s Crash Reporter and make sure that you are submitting the crash.

In the meantime, please be sure to review our suggestions for how to report a bug, and feel free to edit your post if you have additional information to provide:

Hi DyMoX -

I have been running a few different tests to see if I could reproduce the crash you are experiencing and I have so far not been successful. If you can please, upload your Machine ID from the crash reporter when the editor crashes that would help me track down the crash.

If you are not getting the Crash Reporter, then please look in the Windows Event Viewer at your Critical and Error Logs for the time around when you crashed and save those logs out for us to view, you can zip them and attach them here.

Finally, if you are not getting a Crash Reporter Pop Up, please include a copy of your DXDIAG

Thank You

Hi Eric!

Thank you for the heads up and sorry for the late response, but I have been a bit busy the last days. I have gathered all/most of the information you need in the attached file (and I hope these are the correct ones, still kind of confused how to get those).

I hope this is sufficient for you.

Thank you
