My most important 4.8.1 project crashes on startup, other 4.8.1 seem to start fine. I simply saved and closed last time I used it. What can I do to fix this?

Hi Rizzo -

According to the Event View Log you are showing in your Comment above, a particular DLL is causing the Fault, MFPlat.DLL which is a Media Framework related file. Have you recently placed any media files into your project? If so, go into your Project’s Content Folder and remove the Media Asset’s .uasset file (s) and then try to open your project again.

If that works, we are working on a known issue regarding crashes with certain media file types, and could you share the type of file that was causing the issue for you (as specific a format as possible)?

If that doesn’t work for you, which I have high hopes for it working, I would run a google search for MFPlat.DLL which is a window’s system file, and make sure that your PC has the correct implementation of this file.

This seem to have solved it. I’ve had these video files in my project for a good week of production time and haven’t had issues until now. Hence not troubleshooting in that direction.

The video files used were: 512x288 (h.264) .mp4 at 2000kbps.

Should I defer from using video files in my project for this potential risk of crasching or is there a “safe” way of implementing them?
