Normal map not showing up correctly in light.

When I put a material down with a normal map on, it dose not show up correctly in the light and shows up like this. Dropbox - Error - Simplify your life When it should look like this. Dropbox - Error - Simplify your life I have tried many things to fix it but cant seem to find one. I also tried it in another project and it did the same thing. Here it is side by side on a wall half lit. Dropbox - Error - Simplify your life

Sorry this is a better picture to show whats happening. Dropbox - Error - Simplify your life

I can’t see what the problem is. The normal map seems to be working correctly depending on the light angle(light is directed from above, right?) If you still think there is a problem check out the normal map texture and make sure it’s compression is set to Normal Map.

No I put a point light on that wall, the normal map only works correctly when in shadows. Sorry that was not the best picture, here is a better one. Dropbox - Error - Simplify your life

Well the work for the material was done in a 3rd party editor, Substance designer. But it used to work fine but now every normal map seems broken. Here are the pictures. Dropbox - Error - Simplify your life Dropbox - Error - Simplify your life

Oh ok, it is more clear now. Can you also post a screenshot of the normal map in texture editor and a screenshot of the material setup please?

It may be related to Substance plugin then. I havent used it on UE4 yet so i cant help you on that unfortunately.

What happens if you disable Use MikkTSpace Tangent in that mesh’s properties in the static mesh editor?

Its not just the Substance materials that do this. It happens to any material with a normal map on it.

Did not change anything.

You need to flip your green channel in the texture if it’s coming from substance designer. Easy way to tell is to turn off all your other channels if the white on the white channel is on the bottom it needs to be flipped.

If its disabled what you need to do is delete the texture from the project and reimport it. I have had that issue before where it would block the settings it’s from importing and overriding it too many times.

I did already try to do that but the option is disabled so will not let me tick it.

It didn’t work. It is not just that one material that this is happening to, it is on any material with a normal map applied. I feel its something in the editor that is causing it to happen not the textures.

One last thing that comes to mind: enable Use DXT5 Normal Maps in Project Settings > Rendering, restart the editor and see if it helps.

I have also tried this also. Thanks for trying to help.
