Why do Surface Materials not show in the Details panel when I click on an object in the World Outliner?

For example, I have to click the Box Brush object in the Viewport to get the Surface Materials property for that particular object to show in the Details panel. If I click a Box Brush in the World Outliner, the only properties I get in the Details panel are Transform, Brush Settings, and Actor. I’m asking after fruitlessly spending half an hour searching to see if I was missing a setting somewhere.

BSP’s behave differently than a static mesh. When you select a BSP in the world outliner you are selecting the whole actor.

Think of selecting the entire BSP as selecting a parent. The faces and attributes associated with each one are the children.

So you have different options associated with different levels of slection.

This is how BSP’s are intended to be handled.
