Is the default character in ue4 copyrighted?

I moved your question to the correct space. Thanks.

I’d be interested to know this too. I’m not interested in the mesh so much as the default Unreal skeleton. It would be nice to be able to create a character that works nicely with Unreal, but then use it in other contexts too.

There are lots of free humanoid rigs: several come with Makehuman, and there is also the Rigify rig from Blender. Any of these could be used, but then the character would be a bit inconvenient to use with Unreal and its standardised animations.

Okay there are some links here you can look at.

What can I do with content I obtain from the Marketplace and Learn tab?

Besides using this content for learning, experimenting, and prototyping, you can also ship it in your own products, too! However, you can’t sell or sublicense Marketplace content to other developers for use in their products, e.g. via website or e-commerce mechanism built into a 3D development tool.

Q: Can you use the content in the marketplace for commercial use ?

A: You can use all of the free Epic content in the marketplace commercially in any games you build with UE4. This includes all of the content residing in example projects. For example, all of the weapons, meshes, sounds and materials in Shooter Game. Tappy Chicken even!

So in a essence you can use the Mannequin and Skeleton but you can’t claim copyright of the mannequin or skeleton. You could also use the skeleton in your own marketplace projects and a lot fo the content there is compatible with the skeleton.

I hope this answers your questions sufficiently.

Thanks very much!
