EULA location, Epic Trademarks, and Credits content

First of all… I am doing the opening set of screens for my game at this moment and I have the Unreal 4 logo come up with sound first thing, as do most other games, and I was wondering if I needed to apply for trademark licensing (Unreal Engine Branding-Richtlinien und Verwendung von Markenzeichen - Unreal Engine) for that section because I believe I read somewhere that the was logo was required at startup…?

Second of all… When I have the EULA completed does it need to go in the game or does it get sent to whoever you are selling the product through, like Steam, for them to post before installation of the product?

Last of all… When posting “[Product Name] uses the Unreal® Engine. Unreal® is a trademark or registered trademark of Epic Games, Inc. in the United States of America and elsewhere.” and “Unreal® Engine, Copyright 1998 – xxxx, Epic Games, Inc. All rights reserved.” can it go in the opening screen instead of the credits screen and if so is there a specific amount of time that it must be visible?

Thanks

Hi, I’ll try to answer your questions in turn:

  1. The logo isn’t required at startup under the EULA, and to use the UE4 logo you do need to fill out the trademark license form at the upper-right hand side of the page you linked.
  2. I gather you’re talking about the EULA for your game, but I can’t give you legal advice about your EULA. I can say from Epic’s perspective either option you listed is ok.
  3. The EULA does ask that the UE copyright notice in your game credits, so that is our preference.

Ok thanks Canon, I wasn’t necessarily seeking personal legal advice about my game UELA location, I just wasn’t sure the preferred location. I may need to post another technical question to AnswerHub about how to implement it into my game (not sure if that is possible or practical) but I would think the best thing is to have the download site require it to be agreed to before the game can be downloaded.

I believe Steam or Apple, as examples, can facilitate uploading the document there.
