Maya ART IK controls break after upgrade to windows 10 and 4.8.3

I noticed that after upgrading to windows 10 and Unreal Engine 4.8.3, the Maya ART toolset rigs I’ve made are broken. The IK controls dont work properly and break the rig. Moving the hips translates some, but not all of the controls. The arms have similar problems.
Also, as a side note, the “scale control curve” tool is broken again. Its gone back to translating the leaf joint controls in the face when I scale them down. I realize that upgrading so many things on my system is bound to break things, but I’m glad to be able to share in the experience of refining these tools, that’s one of the reasons I love using them.

Hi Aaron,

Had you made any modifications to the ART tools after installing the engine (eg. merging the latest changes from Jeremy’s Dropbox)? If so, updating the engine likely overwrote those updates since the tools live in the engine install folder, and you’d need to re-apply them.

I highly recommend moving the ART tools outside of the Engine/Extras folder. Leaving them there risks overwrites on updates. Also, since it stores all of the models/rigs in it, removing the owning engine version would also delete any source assets stored in the ART tools folders.

I reinstalled one of Jeremey’s hot fixes and that fixed the scaling control curves. As for the IK rig breaking, I restored all of my rig and export files from a backup I made before. Its still broken. The skin weights are still there, but it seems like the control curve and joint relationships have been broken.

Hi aaron_saluk,

Glad to hear you got scaling control curves working again. Unfortunately, we are unable to reproduce the issue of the IK controls breaking. However, it is unlikely an OS upgrade would cause this to happen.

Please try (saving a copy to restore if neccessary) then deleting /maya/$VERSION/prefs/userPrefs.mel

If this does not work, as another trouble shooting step you could make a back up of your Maya prefs folder, then delete the original and restart to let Maya rebuild this directory as it sounds like it may have been corrupted. If this fixes the IK issue, you’ve narrowed down where the problem is occurring.

Of course, this resets all your custom settings as well, in which case you can restore the directory and work back from there.
