AimOffset node crash and other issues when (As pin) Blend Space is checked

There are 2 problems with the AimOffset node when its “(As pin) Blend Space” is checked and I’m driving the Blend Space pin with a variable of type Blend Space Base.

The first problem is that my skeletal mesh character completely wigs out visually, all stretched out at odd angles. It looks fine when the pin is not checked.

The second problem is that once “(As pin) Blend Space” is checked and the Base Pose pin is being driven, then the Editor will crash if I uncheck the checkbox or if I try to delete the AimOffset node.

I’ve attached the crash report and an image of the State Machine state where the AimOffset node is being used.

For your Blend Space Base variable do you have your Aim Offset Blend Space selected as the default value? (Once we selected this, the distortion was fixed)

As for the crashing, I was not able to reproduce this by unchecking “(As pin) Blend Space” or deleting the AimOffset node. However, this does point out a bug that once you uncheck this box, the node becomes inoperable and you have to replace the node altogether with a new AimOffsetBlendSpace Node. I have reported this as JIRA [UE-19856]

Let me know if selecting the AimOffsetBlendspace as the default value does not resolve the issue.

We are looking into your crashes. In the meantime, I cannot find the AnimGraph you illustrated in the attachment above in your project to test our resolution concerning, “The first problem …that [your] skeletal mesh character completely wigs out visually.”

Please let me know where I can locate this.

It’s no longer in the project. When the character began wigging out, that’s when I began to edit the BP and started getting the crashes. The crashes left me in a state where I could no longer edit my BP without it crashing the editor, and so it wasn’t possible for me to go back to the wig-out case.
