Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Crash when opening project after deleting a material

I have this one material that when I try to delete it it says that it's being referenced somewhere in the memory. But when I use the reference viewer it shows nothing. And now every time I delete the material my project crashes at launch. Luckily I've made backups.

Hey EnricoUniverse,

Within the Content Browser, right-click on your 'Content' folder and choose the 'Fix Up Redirectors in Folder' option. It should then fix any redirectors within your folders. Save your project, close, and re-open to make sure you are now able to properly delete the material.

Let me know if you run into any issues.

Thank you,

Andrew Hurley

I use this option on a daily basis. But it just won't fix this material. Maybe worth noting; the material is migrated into the project via windows explorer.

Hey EnricoUniverse,

Using the Content Browser migration tool is suggested as this feature properly migrates assets and their references and will allow you to use the 'Fix Up Redirectors in Folder' option correctly as well.

Here is some helpful documentation on how to manage your content for your projects.

Content Browser

Take a read over this documentation to get a better understanding of how to handle creating and moving your content.

Thank you,

I know I did that wrong, but is there a way of fixing it after this happened?

You honestly might have corrupted the asset, which usually is irreversible. If the material you worked on can still be opened in any version, you could try copying the entire material graph's nodes onto your clipboard (Ctrl+C) and pasting it into a notepad text file.

Create a new blank project, copy and paste the text from the notepad file into a newly created material and connect the input and output pins to their respective connections.

In the future, definitely try to migrate all of your content within the 'Content Browser' itself. I found another little bit of documentation that will also help you when moving forward and fixing your redirectors.
