after update to 4.8 on mac weird graphical glitches occur

hello there!
after upgrading to unreal engine 4.8 on os x (10.9.5) running on an imac 27" (gtx 780m) there are weird graphical artifacts in the editor and the standalone app. we are using the awesome xoio berlin flat that got upgraded to 4.8 as a test-environemt for architectural visualization.

check out the screenshot:

does anybody have the same problems on mac like us?

Hey konzeptzwei,

Thank you for taking the time to create a new report for this issue. A couple of quick questions before I test this issue on my end.

  • Have you attempted to rebuild the lighting using ‘Production’ quality?
  • What are the settings you have applied for your Engine Scalability settings?
  • Did you make any changes to the project before opening in 4.8?

Are you on version 4.8.3 or an earlier release of 4.8?

Thank you,

hey andrew!
thanks for the quick response!

“Have you attempted to rebuild the lighting using ‘Production’ quality?”

→ yes! i just did and unfortunately it just looks the same! (editor & standalone)

“What are the settings you have applied for your Engine Scalability settings?”

→ the settings look like this:

“Did you make any changes to the project before opening in 4.8?”

→ no i installed a fresh scene from the marketplace.

btw. i have the CUDA Driver Version: 7.0.61 installed. could this be the culprit?

I would use the latest driver for your card, and also set the settings to ‘Epic’.

Let me know if you see a visual change.

Thanks,

well, the settings are set to EPIC and the cuda drivers are the newest…and it still looks like this:

Hey konzeptzwei,

I was able to reproduce what you are reporting and found that this project was designed for desktop computers and mobile platforms. In other words, it supports the OpenGLES 3.1 Metal Shader and SM5 shader models.

Drop down the settings options menu again, and set the Preview Rendering Level to High-End Mobile/Metal option. Be sure to also go to the ‘Editor Preferences’ and enable the option within the experimental section.

Let me know what your outcome is after testing changing these options. Be sure to restart your project as well.

Cheers,

hello andrew!
i just checked the preview settings to high end and now the editor looks like this:

after hitting play in the editor almost everything looks like it should be. unfortunately hitting launch creates a scene that looks like the old screenshots above.

furthermore unreal crashed several times and does not seem to »remember« the preview settings…very experimental to say the least.

Hey konzeptwei,

After some digging I found that the Substance Plugin, required for this project, is causing issues in 4.8.3. This should be fixed in the next upcoming full release of the engine.

We are currently in the process of finding a better way to update plugins so users can do this themselves in the relative version of the engine they are working. Thank you for taking the time to report this issue, and we ask you look on the Forums in the Announcements and Releases section for updates to this issue.

Thank you,
