Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Reinstallation of windows : detect downloaded engines?

I had to do a fresh install of Windows 10. I had downloaded UE 4.7 and 4.8 prior to this installation, on another partition.

I just installed again Epic Games Launcher, and I'd like it to detect the 2 engines.

Is it possible?

This is old, but I'm in a similar situation. All my previously downloaded engines and assets are on a separate partition.

Will the method described here also work for assets as well? Am I fearing for nothing because the launcher is now more adroit than it once was? I just don't want to dive into a double digit gig download unawares. Thanks!

With assets do you mean assets from the Marketplace? If yes, the launcher always recognizes all valid packages in the VaultCache folder.

Ok, thank you.

Hi Zoubi!

Yes, this is possible. As long as you place the installations of UE 4.7 and 4.8 back into the expected location, when you hit the download button for them, assuming there hasn't been any updates since the copy you still have, the Launcher will just run through the 'Verifying' stage and you'll be ready to go.

For me, on windows with default install location, that means dropping the folders here:-
C:\Program Files\Epic Games\4.7
C:\Program Files\Epic Games\4.8

It might be different for you if you changed the location of the Launcher install.

Let us know if you need further assistance with the setup!

Thank you for your answer.

Unfortunately, when I open up the launcher, the Library tab is empty. It doesn't show up the 4.7 and 4.8 versions. So I can't click on Download anyway :/

Ahh, sorry. After you placed the folders in the right place you still have to click the "Add Versions" button to get an entry, select the 4.7 or 4.8 version, and then click the install button. Repeat once it's started to get the next.

Thanks for the answer. I'll only be able to test auto-detect this evening, so I'll put a follow-up here, but I guess everything will work just fine :)

This does not work at all anymore! When I try it with 4.15, I get a error message that says the directory needs to be empty. With older version I can not even define the same folder. All my old versions have a folder name like "4.13" and now the launcher forces folder names like "UE_4.13"

I got a mothed to solve this problem. 1.firstly leave the install location empty and push "install" button 2.then pause the progress and close "epic games" app 3.delete the folder names like "UE_4.18" and copy your previous "UE_4.18" folder to this very location 4.then restart "epic game" app, and coutinue the installing progress. it will skip downloading and start verifing step.
