Failed to import apex clothing asset

I am new to unreal engine and have been testing out the apex clothing.
I too got the same error message and I am using the (APEX Clothing Tutorial: Trenchcoat) file for testing on the nvidia website PhysX SDK: Latest Features & Libraries | NVIDIA Developer
The file I use to export the apx is : ctdm_trenchCoat_M_Final
I am using 3dsMax 2012 64bit and nvidia_physx_for_autodesk_3ds_max_2012_64bit_3.01.10328.19590

Did I use the wrong version of the physx or the the file format that I had exported was wrong?

I get the same error. 3ds 2014 and latest APEX. I read on some forum I need an earlier one. However on another they stated all the new worked. Message is the same. Failed to import Apex clothing asset from the selected file.

There is a video by some German guys speaking in English online. However he does not get the error message. User error… Not sure - but I’ve tried to trouble shooting a few things… also by reading through this thread. Would be great to know what the failed message is caused by. Or a list of things that can cause it. Everything works fine in and the viewer in Max.

I sincerely apologize, this post should have never been left without an answer. I had previously attempted to investigate the issue, but at the time we had no means of tracking posts and it was unfortunately lost. We have since fixed that and have been searching for issues that were misplaced to fix any still exiting problems.

Please, could you reupload the asset so that I may have this looked into? It is currently unavailable for download.

I also wanted to add that on the nvidia developerzone site, Unreal Apex plugins for Max/Maya are different from regular Apex plugins so make sure you get the correct plugin! apx/apb files generated from the standard apex plugin won’t import into UE4.

Hi, it’s not a problem i just stoped experementing with apex clothing for now but i would like to repeat it.
I can’t find my old asset but i will create a new one tomorrow…
at xenlock, correct plugin ? hmm funny cause i have downloaded the plugin from the nvidia developer site… where i can get the UE4 compatible plugin ?

nvidia mentions their latest plugins are not compatible with UE4 yet. check this thread: UE4 Apex version? - Asset Creation - Unreal Engine Forums. someone mentions they got version v1.3 plugins (DCC 3.0) to work with UE4 but I’ve personally had the same problem importing as yours. That’s why I’ve been using the older 1.2.3 plugins. Try downgrading 1 version at a time and see if they work.

PhysX Plug-in Version 3.01.10328.19590
PhysX SDK Version 3.3.1
With CAT *3ds auto rigging tools.
Before I send anything over maybe check if that is supported.

CAT is unfortunately not currently supported with UE4. It seems to create an invalid root bone and will have issues with importing. I have personally entered the report for this and can see that it has since been given a high priority by the import team. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

Hi guys, I tried too and I had the same results. I am using the default bones of max, without this and the impossibility of import vertex animation I just dont know what to do.

This functionality has not yet been implemented. The report is still open and being worked on. Please keep an eye open for future updates to the engine.
