Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Why does my object turn black when I build the lighting?

So whenever I build the lighting, my two custom meshes go completely black. The other weird part is that if I put a normal cube on top of those meshes then the cube becomes black but when I move the cube away then the cube appears fine. I have moved the meshes around but no matter where they are they still appear as black. They're the only ones that are appearing as black. None of the other objects are doing that. I also tried changing these meshes from static to movable but they still appear as black. So what's going on with these meshes.

Double-click the mesh to open it in the mesh editor. Change the Light Map Resolution to 512 and change the Light Map Coordinate Index to 1. https://learnunrealengine.com/fix-mesh-turning-black-issue-ue4-geometry-brush-converted-static-mesh-turns-black-building-lighting/

The thing is I didn't make those meshes with blender, I made them with the brush tool. So how can I make light show on them from unreal engine?

Are you sure its a mesh problem? you said the cube becomes black when placed on them too?

Can you provide a screenshot of them problem at all, or the material on the meshes?

Ok so setting the mesh to movable worked for some reason. Is there any way to keep it as a static mesh and still have it be lit.

what about materials on those meshes..... can you test with another material, like some basic concrete or similar. One other thing that can affect lighting is the material, also this material would affect global illumination, and so effect the cube when you placed in on top of the other mesh, and would also follow the mesh wherever you move it.

So I tried another material and it still shows up as black. The other weird part is if I set it to movable, it becomes super bright. So how do I make my mesh not glow as much.

heck your mesh, you might have double faces on top of each other causing that.

Hey Brandon236,

An image of your issues in comparison would be very helpful to visualize your issue!
