Is UE4 going to support the UWP platform?

Very simple question: Is Epic planning to allow us to use the awesome game engine in UWP applications for Windows 10, targeting Desktop, Tablet, Mobile, Xbox, Hololens, and IOT all at once?

We are also interested in this. In 4.9 we see UEBuildUWP.cs has options but there isn't an indication of timeframe in the UE Roadmap trello board and comments in forums are pretty sparse or old.

UWP bundles some very good things on new devices together with some very bad things on PC. Epic plans to steer clear of UWP on all platforms until and unless Microsoft commits to preserving the open nature of the PC platform by making PC UWP as open as PC win32 applications in terms of distribution, installation, and commerce.

That's true: In Windows 10, it's possible to dig into settings and enable sideloading (see: http://www.howtogeek.com/219651/windows-10-allows-you-to-sideload-universal-apps-just-like-android-does/). Android is similar.

This sure doesn't look like an open platform to me, as sideloading is presented as a developer-only feature. This means that the average user has to jump through a lot of hoops to install appx's, unlike win32 applications which can be installed from the web or any other source easily. And, Microsoft has been silent on the future of appx's, sideloading, and in-app commerce restrictions.

Can u give us some example about bundle good things with bad things? If u mean that the UWP application can only release from Windows Store, I believe Apple store are doing the same thing on iOS .

People can still release both win32 for steam and UWP for WS. It will be really good to use UWP from PC to X1 to IOT to even Win10.

It will be great to see support for UWP in UE. It allows UWP apps to run and be tested on consumer XBOX-One which is good news for indie developers etc.

To summarize, UE4 supports win32, which is the industry-standard format used by all Windows applications except those in the Windows Store, which is based on a port of the proprietary Windows Phone app sandbox known as UWP. Microsoft has announced an effort to support win32 in Windows Store (http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/windows-store-net-win32/), so we're all waiting for that to come to fruition with the hope that it will provide a viable path forward.

Except the entire point of UWP is one code base to target w10, w10mobile, xbox, hololens, and even iot. The question wasn't about publishing to the store. That has nothing to do with "uwp".
