In 4.8.3, Build Lighting is always crashing

When I create a new project and I try to build, it is always crashing. Although, i can build it in 4.7.6 how it used to be.

is it a general issue or is it depend on my graphic driver?

How can i handle it?

Thanks in advance.

Would you be able to grab the crash log?

In addition, it looks like a driver is causing the engine to crash, can you post a copy of your DXDIAG?

Thank You

Hi Nowskify and Eric

Please see the attached log files.

Hi GrncHml -

We have actually tracked down this issue. It is a conflict in the drivers for the Intel Integrated Graphics Drivers. Downloading the newest version of the drivers which can be found here:

will fix the crashing and allow you to continue to build lighting.

I should note that other users have reported that Intel (or their computer/laptop manufacturer) is telling them that they do not need an update. If this is the case, please check to make sure that your driver version is below the 15.36.21.64.4222 driver number. If it is at that driver number and you are still having this issue, please let us know. If not, one user had to force install the new update by downgrading his driver to an older version and then manually installing the driver linked above.

Hi Eric,

I cant install the Intel Graphic Driver 15.36.21.64.4222 because laptop manufacturer (Toshiba) doesn’t allow for this operation.
My Intel Graphic Driver version is 10.18.10.3412 and it is latest driver for toshiba :frowning:

What can i do about this issue?

Thanks in Advance

Hi -

So actually you have two issues, the intel integrated graphics driver needs to be updated in order to run the current version of the engine, but more troublesome is that the engine is not using the Raedon Graphics card that your DXDIAG is listing. Check in your Catalyst Control Panel and ensure that Unreal Engine is set to use the Radeon card and not the Integrated graphics card. This should also correct your crashing issue.

Hi Eric

How can i check that Unreal Engine is set to use the Radeon card ?
you can see my Catalyst Control panel but I can’t see any options in it.

Hi GrcnHml -

I am not as familiar with AMD’s Control Center but it usually is under Game Performance. You can set a program to use the Radeon card over the Intel Card (it may be referred to as maximum performance).

Hi Eric,

It made me so tired. I think the issue doesn’t in relation with graphic card because 4.7.6 runs properly. In my opinion there is small a bug in 4.8.3 build executer (maybe it can be in relation to graphic adapter but I believe there is really difference between 4.7.6 builder and 4.8.3 builder)

Hi GrcnHml -

The issue is the Intel Graphics Driver which you CPU is defaulting to using when Unreal Engine opens is no longer compatible with the newest version of the Unreal Engine. The solution is either to contact your laptop manufacturer to get the version 15.36.21.64.4222 of the Intel driver or to set your laptop to switch to the AMD Radeon card which will not crash.
