ive started building a basic map and reading through epics tuts and they seem to have loads of textures/meshes/materials in there content browser and mine has nothing it just says please adjust filter settings. please help as i need the materials and stuff

If you are seeing that it means either you have no assets and a completely blank project or you have filtered out everything in the content browser. You can find out more about navigating the content browser here:
What type of project did you create? Did you check on the “Include Starter Content” in the New Project menu before making the project? That will give you the base assets that are seen in the video tutorials.
