WorldSettings_1 error: Lighting needs to be rebuild - But I already did that!

Hello!

I just added a lot of grass foliage through the “Landscape Grass Type” blueprint and added it to my terrain. While placing everything works great, I’m simply not able to render it properly.

I click on “Build”. It shows the percentage of the build lighting, which of course goes up to 100%.

But for some reason after it’s completed I get the error message that my lighting should be rebuild, and nothing in the preview has changed. I test the preview and still “45 unbuild objects”.

I tried to use the “Force No Precompute Lighting” route, but that didn’t work at all.

What can I do? I really don’t want to remake the entire map, it took a long time.

Did nobody else experience this?

Hello Rhidor,

From what you have described you have added foliage to your scene via BP and built lighting. Afterward you are still getting the message that you have objects to be built.

There are a few questions that I have about your scene.

1.) Are your lights set to static/stationary/ or movable?
2.) Is your foliage set to movable or stationary?
3.) Can you post a screenshot of what you are experiencing?

Normally lighting build issues are a result of trying to bake static lighting on dynamic objects. There are several other possibilities of how this could be happening, however, please look into some of the troubleshoots mentioned above. This will help narrow down the list of possibilities.

Please let me know what you find out,

Hello Rhidor,

I have not heard from you yet. I was wondering if you were still experiencing this issue? Also, have you had a chance to troubleshoot using the above mentioned steps?

Thank you,

Hello Rhidor,

Due to tracking purposes I will be closing this thread. If you are still having the problem then please post again and I will reopen this issue.

Thank you,

Hello Rhidor,

For the foliage lighting if you would open a new thread for it rendering that dark.

Thank you,

Sorry that I saw your reply this late, and thanks for the helpso far.

Yes, I’m still experiencing the issue. Here are my results after following your troubleshoots:

  1. I checked the two lights which were automatically generated with the 3rd person blueprint. Both are set to “Station”.
  2. I can’t change the movability settings on my foliage, as they aren’t added as actors, but instead are “drawn” with the terrain texture.

To 3.: This is how it looks like. Very dark and also quite gappy when further away, even though it should cover the ground evenly (it does when zoomed in). Also, the lighting error as posted appears when I try to render it.

I think the error is fixed now. I’ve set the two lights to “Movable”, rendered again and it worked. Lighting gets properly build now and everything runs smoothly.

It still looks terrible though. Dark and many empty spots from afar. Should I open up a new topic or shall we solve this here?
