Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Is it possible to disable updates?

A few students, including me, want to try the engine for half a year and since everyone's budget is low, we want to stay on the version everyone is able to update to within the first month of subscription.

So is it possible to disable the launcher from updating by itself to prevent it from mismatching with the others? Or can one choose the revision to work on? Or is it harmless to mix versions (don't think so though)?

Hi hexagonius,

You are correct that teams would have difficulties trying to work on the same project across different engine versions.

It sounds like what you really want to do is have everyone pay for the first month subscription, and then cancel your subscriptions. This is a perfectly fine approach. For the first paid month, all members will receive engine updates. After the subscription runs out, you will all be able to continue using the engine version that you already have, and will not be getting any updates.

If you happen to decide as a group later that you all want to upgrade to a new version, then it will be no hassle for each member to renew their membership for a month and get the updates, then cancel again as necessary.

I hope this helps.

We might have an unknown difference from first to last of who bought the license. It would be nice if it was possible to manually disable updates or choose the revision to use, like when it becomes necessary to reinstall the whole thing.

I forgot to mention two other things.

  1. Offline Mode. Once you have used the Launcher to download what you want, you can log out and then switch to Offline mode. This ignores any updates and lets you continue working on your last downloaded version.

  2. Source code from GitHub. Compiling the engine source code yourself, instead of being provided executables by the Launcher, grants you the highest level of control. On GitHub you can always go back and pull files for older releases. Using this method you could ensure that any new teammates only get the version your team requires.

That is a good question regarding reinstalling without an active account, which I don't have the answer for yet, but will be sure to investigate.

Cheers
