i try the same fbx on a different pc (more slowly and unpowerful one) and all works perfectly

Hi Ilumaurone7,

When you say you cannot import anything, does this mean even simple objects/shapes like a box or sphere mesh?

Often when importing larger FBXs or ones that have a lot of complexity to them, such as high poly count or lots of individual pieces the editor will appear to freeze around the 75% mark on import. This is really just processing the mesh since the import option for Combine Meshes is on by default.

What’s happening in this part is that each piece of the mesh is being written to memory, saved, it takes the next piece of the mesh, moves that to the one in memory, then saves, and repeat the process until done. This can be time consuming for some meshes. There are also other processes like triangulating the mesh that also takes place during this step.

To improve the import times, you can triangulate your mesh before you export from your modeling program.

This is just a little background on the process. There may be something else going on here as well, but Just wanted to throw that out there so you’re aware.

To test if it’s a case of the waiting game above, you can try disabling the Combine Meshes options and see if that imports more quickly. It should since it’s not having to save to memory over and over again.

Can you also link me a copy of your DxDiag?
If the Combined Meshes option didn’t work, would you be willing to share the mesh, I can test on my Win 8.1 machine here and see if I’m seeing anything similar.

Let me know.
