4.9 Bug: Comments removed / dissapear while using Source Control (Perforce, Blueprints)

I have a project setup to a dedicated perforce server and run with it constantly on.

I finally got to try 4.9 out for a bit today and realized that unless I save within maybe 15-30 seconds of typing in a comment on a node it will turn back to “click to edit”. I dont know if this is source control, blueprints, or what.

Reproduction instructions:

  1. Create 1pchar project or some other template I’m sure will work
  2. Create a GameInstance class (its what I’m working on experiencing this)
  3. Create a macro or custom event (what its happpened on so far)
  4. Create some nodes getPlayerController and printString and textToString and byteToText so far I’ve noticed 100%
  5. Create comments on those nodes
  6. Don’t save immediately but do some other “work” and see if the comments change back to “Click to edit.”

Perforce settings on the gameInstance class: Create new blank, mark for add, check-in (submit empty!), check-out and then edit as above.

Thanks, this is very annoying.

Edit: I’m getting them going back to “Click to edit” all over the plcae, even after saves it seems. It seems random cause some are staying, some need a save, some need a save and compile. Hmmm.

Edit2: I just had it where I commented a node (calling a custom event on a switch(enum) ) and then saved, compiled, saved and it was gone again a minute later

Hello Nsomnia,

I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed set of steps for any steps that may have been missed in your original post?
  3. What the project that you were testing upgraded from an older version of the engine?
  4. If you can reproduce this issue in a clean project, can it be reproduced without source control?

When I have time to test a clean project I will report back because this is very annoying.

  1. Will get back to you when I have more time

  2. Will do

  3. Possibly. I want to say no though. But maybe. Hard to remember.

  4. Source control off and its still happening. Will try on a clean project.

Hello Nsomnia,

We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. I saw that you said you were going to try and reproduce this issue in a clean project. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will offer further assistance.

Thank you.

This is still happening it hadnt occured until I setup another project using Perforce. Totally fresh project.

Will try another fresh fresh project with no content added and see if it occurs im leaving this window open so I remember.
