Why is the Character BP rotated -90 degree?

So that forward vector is +x is what I’m told, from the capsules point of view and works in 1p and 3p templates.

But it doesn’t make sense, it should point +x to start with. Its been like that forever, I can remmeber at least as far back as 4.4, definitively not a bug.

I am wondering about the reason why the character BP’s standard arrow is rotated 90 degree?

When I import a skeletal mesh from 3DS, which is correctly oriented in 3DS so I see the face in the front viewport, then the mesh is also correctly oriented in Unreal when I look at the skeleton editor and click on “front”. However, when I make a character Blueprint and import the character, I have to rotate it -90 degrees so that it is aligned with the standard arrow that comes with the Blueprint.

Also, when you click on “left” in the blueprint view, it is then that the arrow points toward you, so the arrow actually seems to point left and yet we are supposed to make that the front of a character.

Is there a reason for it? Are there any benefits in having the BP character rotated? It seems like an unnecessary step to me.

Thanks

Ok, so basically nobody knows and it’s an oddity, still thanks for the answer
