Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

4.9 Freezes When New Window Opens

Hello! This is my first question here. I just reinstalled UE4 onto my new computer and have found that the engine will freeze anytime a warning window of any sort comes up. It doesn't crash to desktop, or do anything outrageous, it just stops responding. Nothing is clickable, but it shows two windows on the taskbar, one the engine and then a blank one. Also it does come up as "not responding" in task manager.

Some things that have made it freeze:

  • Changing variable types

  • Trying to extrude in geometry mode

  • Converting map from 4.8 to 4.9 when choosing project

  • Importing asset options

  • Opening Color picker

  • Trying to restore from incorrect shutdown (Caused from this window problem)

No crash log is created that I can find.

I thought it was fixed with the answer below, but it's nor working anymore. Any suggestions? I have Windows 10.

Product Version: UE 4.9

Hi FearingFun -

A few things to test and let us know, first make sure that you are on the latest drivers and once down upload your DXDIAG here so we can test on a similar machine. Next, try to find the non-responsive moments via Windows Event Viewer. I have not tested the Event Viewer in Windows 10, but the principles haven't changed since win95. You can find out how to use the Event Viewer here:

Actually, after some testing it was apparently an issue with some of the MSI software that came installed with my laptop! Disabling pretty much anything MSI related has gotten rid of this error and a C++ runtime library error I was receiving.

After doing the Windows Event Viewer, I can confirm that it does appear it was the Nahemic interface that was causing the issues.

We had problem of FPS in editor dropping from 120 to 5 when howering mouse over any button or on showing any tooltip. Our hardware: MSI GS60 6QE.

Disabling Nahimic application solves the problem.
